Boyd Hoekel is a commercial litigator who joins Quadros, Migl & Crosby after thirteen years with Weingarten Realty Investors (Weingarten) where he managed its nationwide commercial litigation docket. Mr. Hoekel knows commercial landlord-tenant law from the letter of intent stage through disposing of tenant abandoned personal property after termination of a lease. Mr. Hoekel is also intimately familiar with the terms of complex commercial lease agreements and reciprocal easement agreements and has consulted frequently on shopping center operational matters. Mr. Hoekel managed cases running the gamut from construction defects involving 500,000+ square feet of defective shopping center roofing down to tenant claims regarding dry-pipe odors. Mr. Hoekel recovered over $32M net on commercial collection matters for Weingarten. Mr. Hoekel consistently handled disputes concerning commercial leases, reciprocal easement agreements, construction defects, M&M liens, broker’s commissions, associations within mixed-use developments, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and environmental contamination.

Before joining Weingarten in 2008, Mr. Hoekel practiced law at Shook, Hardy & Bacon, LLP (2001 – 2008) where he appeared in jurisdictions throughout Texas defending an international conglomerate and its subsidiaries from product liability, construction defect and breach of contract claims. Mr. Hoekel also represented businesses in commercial collection and real estate cases in the Houston metropolitan area. Shook, Hardy & Bacon, LLP awarded Mr. Hoekel the 2006 Sylvan Siegler Award for Excellence in Mentoring for his work with junior attorneys at the firm.

Prior to Shook, Hardy & Bacon, LLP, Mr. Hoekel practiced at the former Houston law firm Dow, Cogburn and Friedman, PC (1998-2001) where he worked on commercial, construction and real estate cases. Mr. Hoekel successfully pursued commercial collection claims on behalf of contractors and materialmen, including claims against the United States of America. He successfully defended both general contractors and subcontractors from breach of contract claims.

Mr. Hoekel attended the University of Texas School of Law where he was a member of the Board of Advocates. Mr. Hoekel is licensed to practice before all federal and state courts in Texas, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the United States Court of Federal Claims.

Mr. Hoekel has been married to Tari Hoekel since 1996. They have two adult sons, William and Christopher.
